THE PODCAST

(Among Friends first gained steam as a homemade, independent zine, and then as a free podcast. It is still free to listen to, download and share.)

The book is what I like to call the "extended" version of the zine & podcast. It's 150% the advice of the original, with added features like book recommendations, a resource section and space for personal reflection.

A Very Public Service Announcement

Inspired by my bike ride home from work at 1:00 pm today. Also, by the past ten years of my life, and the past ten or so years in the lives of all my girlfriends.

even scarier when people are doing the harassment in cars when you're on your bike.. and when you respond, you become terrified that they're going to run you over. or if you don't respond, you fear that they're gonna follow you wherever you're going.

and by respond, i mean responses of the 'shut up, assface! you're an idiot!' variety, as generally when someone screams at me that they can 'see what's between my legs' while i'm riding my bike, it doesn't make me feel like running over and embracing them in a sudden fit of amorousness.

once upon a time, papa winfrey was running, and some men on a front porch yelled something racist to him. he stopped, turned around, walked up on the front porch and introduced himself. then, he told them he was a local pastor, and didn't feel anyone should be treated like that, especially when they didn't know one another. the men were speechless, embarrassed and my dad ran away. :)

maybe we should have frank winfrey run with all the single ladies to protect them, too. just thinkin' thoughts.

usually, people yelling things to me while i'm walking are my students. :-/ and usually it's, "what up, seaman?" which, i guess, if broken up differently with changes in grammar could be REAL OFFENSIVE.

i just realized i sound really sarcastic in this. let it be known, i think harassment of any kind should be PULVERIZED. xoxo
